Take a closer look at the important and impressive Itaipu Dam. Admire the most beautiful views of the dam approximately 8 km long and listen to the history and facts about the plant and its operation. Then get to know the Bela Vista Wild Animals Eco Retreat, a unit of environmental protection, created in the 70s to get thousands of animals "dislodged" by the power plant. Finally, visit the Eco-museum, which preserves the history of the plant and the Brazilian region where the dam was built
Itaipu: The visit starts at the Visitor Reception Centre with the screening of a film about Itaipu and follows in our bus to get to know the hydroelectric plant. The route passes through the spillway lookout and includes a stop at the central gazebo, from where you have a wide view of the dam with its approximately 8 km long and 196 meters high. Then will be made a brief explanation of the operation of the plant. The visit continues on the bus, through the penstocks. Depending on the plant's operation, the bus can also go over the dam, from where you have a breathtaking view: the Parana River in Foz do Iguaçu in the background and, in the opposite direction, the reservoir of 1,350 km² which supplies Itaipu.
Bela Vista Wild Animals Eco Retreat: a protection unit established to receive thousands of plants and animals displaced by the plant's reservoir. The tour starts in the car, leaving the Visitor Reception Centre and circumvents the Piracema Channel to the buildings of the Refuge. All spaces use alternative sources of energy and were built based on the concepts of green architecture. The script follows with a 2 km walk on a trail in the midst of native forest and involves environmental education lessons.
Ecomuseum: a great option to know the history of Itaipu. Scenarios faithful to the past, electronic totems and a giant model are part of this cultural space. The circuit is divided into modules that depict since the occupation of the plant's area on the Brazilian side to conservation projects conducted by the binational. Among the surprises visitors can enjoy thematic areas of water and energy, as well as a replica of the axis of a turbine at work - you can hear the characteristic sounds of the heart of the plant. The place also has an impressive panel created in homage to the thousands of workers who helped build the dam. There are 4,500 photos of the workers in the 3x4 format.
