Itinerary

The goal of this tour is to show off the astonishing variety of architectural styles that make up São Paulo, and to dig deep into the architectural history of the city.

The tour includes a visit to downtown São Paulo, where we will find colonial buildings decorated with taipa de pilão (a traditional material made up of a mixture of clay, sand, grass and animal blood) alongside buildings in the neoclassical, eclectic , art noveau and art deco styles.

Afterwards, we will give special attention to the modernist structures, with a focus São Paulo’s brutalist school, which won international acclaim through the works of architects such as Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Lina Bo Bardi and Vilanova Artigas.

The Architecture Tour in São Paulo will also take a look at buildings by Oscar Niemeyer, the most famous Brazilian architect of the 20th century. The world-renowned Niemeyer, recently deceased, built immensely important buildings in São Paulo which attest to his enduring and singular vision.
