The Region
Southern Brazil includes the South and the Southeastern regions of Brazil. In the South you will find the States of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The most popular destinations are Iguassu Falls, Curitiba, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre. In the Southeastern you will find the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. And the most popular destinations are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Búzios and Paraty.
The climate in the South tends to be colder, quite different from the rest of Brazil. In Summer it’s quite warm. But on fall and winter, it gets progressively colder. The Southeastern is characterized by tropical climate on the coast of Rio de Janeiro, where the temperature is often high and the weather variates between rainy and dry. The subtropical climate is also seen in the region, particularly in the southern state of Sao Paulo, near the border with Paraná, with a large thermal variation and good rainfall distribution
