How to get to Fortaleza:

Some Airlines fly to Fortaleza from outside of Brazil. Here is a list:

Condor / Meridiana – Air Italy / TACV / TAP/.

Location:

Fortaleza is located in the Northeast of Brazil in the State of Ceará. 1:00 hour North and you reach Cumbuco, which offers wonderful beaches. If you go 1:00 south instead, you’ll find Aquiraz and it’s own fair share of exciting beaches. You can reach both on tours departing Fortaleza for the day or be lodged there if you are looking for some place a little quieter than Fortaleza.

About 4:30 to 5:00 hours further North you will find the small village of Jericoacoara, that has been once elected as one of the top 10 beaches in the World by The Washington Post. If you are looking for an out of the beaten path relaxing destination, Jericoacoara is the place to be. Sand roads and beaches long as far as the eye can see.

Climate and Temperature in Fortaleza:

Fortaleza, the Capital of Ceará is even further north when compared to its other northeastern Capital counterparts. That means that Fortaleza is even closer to the equator. The weather is warm through the year.

It gets most rain in Summer and Autumn when the other capitals of the northeastern get more rain in Winter, so its climate is slightly different when compared to Recife, Salvador, João Pessoa or Maceió, just to name a few.

The Maximum average temperature is around 30 Degrees Celsius or 86 Fahrenheit. The minimum is around 24 Degrees Celsius or 75 Degrees Fahrenheit.

In Fortaleza and on nearby beaches you will get temperature of 27 Degrees Celsius or 81 Degrees Fahrenheit.

The rainy season is from February through May. The months of August through November see little rain.

The Best time to go:

As Fortaleza gets warm temperatures through the year, is the rain you have to watch for. From August through December you will have very good chances to avoid rains.

What to try from the local cuisine:

Baião de dois A dish appreciated in all of Northeast, the Baião de dois is made with rice and beans cooked together with additional seasonings such as chive, tomatoes, pepper. Cheese and butterfat is usually added too.

Bolo de Macaxeira – A cake that uses cassava in its cake batter, resulting in a peculiar taste.
