Itinerary
After hotel pickups, the tour begins with a visit to the historic downtown of Blumenau, the Brazilian capital of beer. Our first stop is at the Biergarten, where the city was founded. Nearby, we explore Duque de Caxias Avenue, also called Palmeiras Avenue, the first planned street of the colony. The imperial palm trees that line the avenue were originally brought from Rio de Janeiro and planted in 1876, adding to the city’s rich history.
Next, you have the option to visit the Colonial Family Museum, a fascinating cultural space preserving 6,200 historical pieces. These artifacts once belonged to Blumenau’s founder, colonizers, and their families, including well-preserved furniture, clothing, accessories, household items, and machinery. Behind the museum lies a forest garden, home to trees planted by the city's founder, as well as the famous Cemetery of the Cats. This unique site was created by Edith, the great-niece of Hermann Bruno Otto Blumenau (1819-99), who deeply loved her cats. Over time, this unusual pet cemetery became a popular tourist attraction, even making national headlines.
The tour continues with a panoramic stop at the City Hall, where you'll have 15 minutes for photographs. Following this, we head to Vila Germânica Park, the vibrant venue of Oktoberfest and other major events in Blumenau. Here, you will find charming shops selling Oktoberfest souvenirs, German-inspired gifts, and delicious local treats. The village also offers bars and cafés, where you can relax and soak in the authentic German atmosphere.
During the tour, there will be free time for shopping, allowing you to browse knitwear, liquors, and unique handicrafts. For lunch (not included), we recommend the renowned Churrascaria Ataliba, where you can indulge in a delicious Brazilian barbecue experience.
Before heading back to Florianópolis, you’ll have a final chance to purchase local handmade goods, ensuring you bring home a piece of Blumenau’s rich culture and traditions.
