Itinerary
Hiking up Gávea Rock (Pedra da Gávea) is one of the most breathtaking and rewarding experiences in Rio de Janeiro. Standing at 842 meters (2,763 feet) above sea level, the summit offers an unforgettable adventure. After hotel pickup, you'll be taken to the trailhead, where the ascent begins. The hike takes approximately two and a half hours, and as you approach the top, you might feel a rush of excitement. While the route includes a short yet steep rock scramble (15 meters / 49 feet) and some trails along the edges of cliffs, there’s nothing to worry about—it’s completely safe and accessible to all.
Once at the top, you'll have 30 to 40 minutes to soak in the breathtaking views of Tijuca Forest, Pedra Bonita, Rocinha favela (one of the largest in the world), São Conrado Beach, Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, and Barra da Tijuca. After taking in the scenery, you'll descend the same way and return to the vehicle, which will drop you off at your hotel.
