Petropolis, the Imperial City

Petropolis, A.K.A., the Imperial City, holds a mixture of history and nature in a unique way. Its close proximity to Rio de Janeiro turned Petropolis into the main destination for the royal court during summer days, in 1822. Petropolis then became the main city of Rio's mountain region in 19th century.

The Royal Family

The weather is cooler and the air, cleaner. These peculiarities are ideal for tourists trying to escape from the high temperatures of Rio, but is in the winter that is high season here. In addition to these features, the city has attractions to tell the story of the time when the monarchy lived in the city, such as the Imperial Museum, São Pedro de Alcântara Cathedral, the Crystal Palace, among many other important buildings in the city.

If you like adventure, Petropolis won't let you down. The Serra dos Órgãos offers various trails with breathtaking panoramic landscapes. 

But in the period between autumn and winter, the city is full of tourists, offering the option to enjoy a cooler climate with good wines, chocolates, fondues, and many hotels and cozy inns for couples and families.

The city show cases its royal inheritance through collections and shows, and colonial architectures. Adding to it all the pleasure of eating and drinking well, amidst incredible rich nature, which provides a completely different climate from the capital of the State, the Imperial city becomes an essential attraction for tourists who come to visit Rio de Janeiro.
