The Street Carnival

The famous Brazilian carnival is not made only of big parades that happen in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The real party is happening on the streets, with the “blocos”, and they are all over Brazil! The 3 biggest street parties happen in Minas Gerais, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro:

Salvador and the Trios Eletricos: The Salvador Carnival is one of the biggest street parties in the world. Every year, around 2 million people participate in the Salvador Carnival Parades. During six consecutive days, from 5pm to 5am, dozens of Bands parade along the streets, playing on big trucks (called Trios). Usually one or more Trios and Artists form a “Bloco”.

Carnival in Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais State): As one of the most visited attractions by tourists from different regions, the Carnaval de Ouro Preto is one of the best and liveliest of the country. The parades, concerts, and parties have attracted more and more participants to the historic city over the years. Guests will find plenty of fun and beautiful people. Today, the celebration is traditional and offers sufficient structure to meet this great demand of tourists. Blocos in Rio de Janeiro: In Rio, if you are not in the Sambadrome watching the parade from the Samba Schools, every day in any street during the week of carnival you will find millions of people parting in the streets, the blocos of Rio are the most traditional ones in Brazil. If you wanna join, take a look at ones like Cordão do Bola Preta and Simpatia é Quase Amor, that every year gather almost one million people singing and dancing in the streets.
